
DeWitt first appeared on stage at the age of 13 years old. DeWitt graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor's degree in Arts. The director encouraged her to apply for UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. The program awarded her the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt said she never met the actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as an assistant secretary while at UCLA. DeWitt's role as Janet Wood in Three's Company's 1977-1984 run is her most well-known. She was cast in the pilot for the show and recruited. She also appeared as Janet in an episode from 1979 on the spinoff show The Ropers. DeWitt made her acting debut in an episode in 1984 on Three's Company. The stage was her first time back to the stage in June 1991 in which she appeared on a Noises Off production in Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She was also a part-time actress in Spring Fling, a 1995 TV comedy. Pinky and the Brain featured an character an adaptation of her voice voice that was voiced by another actress in 1997. She was featured in an episode of Cybill and made a brief appearance on Living Single's final episode. A few of her television shows from the 2000s include Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as well as Call of the Wild.
